Maui Wowi on the Bar Mitzvah Boat

I've always said it's better to have a friend with a boat than to have a boat. Yesterday we took a cruise on the Long Island Sound and made smoothies for a bar mitzvah party of about 125 people. We set up on the deck of the 117-foot Cayah Michele in Cos Cob, CT. A few drink umbrellas flew off in the breeze (they're biodegradeable). Kids and adults had a blast.

Here we are at John and Alison's backyard wedding Luau on Long Island (see the tiki bar at left).

Maui Wowi at Yeshiva Downtown and Uptown

It was a whirlwind day yesterday as Maui Wowi brought our smoothies to two locations of Yeshiva University's Stern College for Women in the morning and afternoon and in the evening battled crosstown traffic to set up for the men's Yeshiva College uptown It was well worth the trip--we served about 2,000 smoothies during the day to welcome students back to school.

MAui Wowi at FIT

What could be better than an 80-degree, low-humidity late August day on the plaza of Fashion Institute of Technology making smoothies? With this group of undergrads the big challenge was color-coordinating the drink umbrellas with their outfits! And getting them to come out of their introverted shells--NOT! Lotsa fun, great group of kids. They did a Caribbean theme welcome event, complete with steel drum band AND free flip-flops with the FIT logo. Cool!

Hawaiian Day at Manhattan College

This is the whirlwind week (actually two) of college back-t0-school events for Maui Wowi. Here we are at Manhattan College in Riverdale. Amazing how here and at Fordham you can be in the Bronx but hardly know it! That's fellow franchisee Paul Branca behind the tiki bar counter. We've been doing our Aloha thing all over New York. If you see two bearded guys in Hawaiian shirts on college campuses (who look well over 30) that's probably us.

Maui Wowi at Forest Laboratories Event

Pharma company Forest Laboratories had their yearly company "Day in the Sun" and invited Maui Wowi to make smoothies for about 1000 employees. It was a blistering hot day, which didn't stop employees from some hard core sports--volleyball, tennis, basketball--and lots to drink!

Smoothies in Central Park

Investment bank Brown Brothers Harriman had its annual summer event at the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park on a hot August night (last year's event was preceded by torrential rain and we definitely prefer the heat). About 1,500 attended and enjoyed great Maui Wowi smoothies, awesome food from Relish Caterers and fun activities including hula hoop and pie-eating contests. Nice to see those bankers get dirty!

Maui Wowi at Camp Echo

We were up in beautiful Orange County, NY in the Hudson Valley for Camp Echo's Hawaiian Day today. We made smoothies for the camp's 500 or so campers and counselors. The camp has counselors from all over the world--Ukraine, Poland, New Zealand, the UK and from around the US as well. The kids were really fun and had a ball, especially with the drink umbrellas, which made their way into sand art on the beach.

Maui Wowi at MasterCard Picnic: Priceless

Here we are at MasterCard's annual family picnic in Purchase NY. Over 2,000 Mastercard employees and family members attended and we made around 1,500 smoothies in three hours (and looked good doing it!). The company chose a Hawaiian theme and had luau food, hula dancers and Hawaiian decorations.

JPMorgan Chase 4th of July Celebration

It was a frequently soggy July 4th in New York City but the weather didn't dampen the spirits of about a thousand JPMorgan Chase employees who came to 1 Chase Plaza to celebrate with their families and see the Macy's fireworks. Maui Wowi made smoothies on the plaza and there were many other activities--a tatoo station, caricaturists (the best one, if you're in the market for something great for events is Aron Laikin), lots of music and of course burgers and hot dogs.

Maui Wowi for Your Home Party

A big part of the Maui Wowi catering story is home parties--whether tropical theme or not. Here's a shot from a party we did last night in Westchester. It was a gorgeous event with food from Plum Catering of Cos Cob, CT. We set up our tiki bar and served smoothies to the 100 or so teenagers there, who loved it. We also made our strawberry and pina colada smoothies for rum drinks for the adults. The event featured face painting, pirate actors, a treasure hunt, steel drum player, and inflatable rides. It was an all-out great summer party, and Maui Wowi added the right touch of extra fun.

Aiden Turner from "All My Children" Tries a Maui Wowi

"Sexy accent, killer smile---Aidan Devane is the object of many women's fantasies. Armed with an analytical mind and an unwavering sense of right and wrong, the only thing this private detective can't seem to find is true love." In real life, Aiden Turner came to join in the fun of the SOAPnet Smoothie Tour at ad agency OMD. Here he is with aspiring actress (making smoothies just until she's discovered) Jane York (daughter of your's truly). On a sad note, Chrishell Stause is no longer the most recent photo on the blog!

All My Children's "Amanda Dillon" Finds True Love...

.....in a Maui Wowi Pina Colada! Chrishell Stause, the actress who plays Amanda on the leading ABC soap All My Children, helped us promote SOAPnet to the media department of ad agency Mediavest. Chrishell was totally into the event, very friendly with the crowd of 100+ media buyers and really fun to hang around (and pretty easy on the eyes, may as well admit that!). Did the Pina Colada taste especially good because of the hot New York weather, or was it perhaps that I was drinking it out of Chrishell's cup? Stay tuned.....

Soap Star Chills with Maui Wowi and SOAPnet

For the fourth year, we're partnering with ABC Television's SOAPnet to help them promote the cable channel's upfront media buying season. We're visiting eight Manhattan ad agencies in the month of June, making our awesome smoothies. The SOAPnet folks are bringing in daytime TV talent which has been a blast. Here we are with One Life to Live's Forbes March and the media folks from McCann advertising.

Mather Hospital Cancer Walk

Maui Wowi franchisees do as much as possible for charitable organizations. We were on hand at Mather Hospital's annual Families Walk for Hope, which raised nearly $200,000 for cancer research. We made about 700 smoothies for a great crowd and a great cause.

NYU Strawberry Festival 07

We were supposed to be outside in Washington Square Park, but it rained on NYU's annual Strawberry Festival. We were moved inside but that didn't dampen the spirits of the 2,000+ students who visited for a Strawberry Banana smoothie, some cotton candy, strawberry taffee...the only thing missing was Pepto Bismol (which would have been the right color, sorta). It was a great event sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and the Health Services department of NYU.

Passaic County Community College Spring Event

It's been college week at Maui Wowi. Here we are at Passaic County Community College in Patterson NJ. That's my oldest daughter Jane behind the counter--home from college and earning a living! (And being recruited by the Marines. Nice try fellas!)

St. Johns Spring Fling 2007

Spring has finally arrived in New York! And not a moment too soon. We were slingin' smoothies at the St. John's University annual Spring Fling on April 20 and the weather was perfect. We served about 1500 smoothies in four hours to the patient folks you see on line in the photo below. At left, Jane and Nathan do the blending.
